Mike Connors is the only dog man I have ever met, that will go to the distance that I will, to prove and produce dogs that
improve a breed and raise the standard. The bulldogs that Mike has had since I've known him have always been far above and
beyond the crap that I see breeders promoting today. It is no wonder that Lana took a liking to this "Yankee". The dogs he
has today are the truest and purest Alapaha bulldogs around. They are hog smashing, cattle driving farm utility dogs with
tremendous civil drive. They have long legs, long noses, excellent lungs and excellent teeth. They can work and hunt all day
everyday and are physically capable of it. What truly amazes me about Mike Connors' program is not just the caliper of dogs
he has had, but that his dogs continually have produced themselves and better, after many generations. Its really nice to
see that this breed does remain intact, despite other breeders efforts to radically alter it, and call it thier own. If you
want an Olde English, Johnson, or Canary dog cross they seem to readily available.. But this is a far cry from, and shouldn't
be passed off as, an Alapaha.
I have teamed up with Mike Connors and we have just bred two awesome bitches in order to produce some sound breeding stock.
Our goal is to promote the Alapaha as it was, and should continue to be. We would be glad to hear from anyone interested in
preserving the integrity of the breed. We should network, organize, and bring the Alapaha to the next level.
I've been involved with alternative bulldogs since about 1989. But I'm not here to sing about my dogs, they speak for themselves
or don't make the cut. I'm not trying to sell any dogs either... I don't care if I ever do. I have chosen to speak up now,
just to help set the record straight. Those of you who know of my "Azlan dogs", I still have dogs like that, but they are
not Alapahas. My Azlan dogs are "olde bulldogs" that are exceptional in thier own right. They swim miles, catch hogs and do
protection/street ring. They are much more refined and able than Leavitt's dogs started out, and enough said. The only reason
I mention the Azlan program is to set the record STRAIGHT... These are not Alapaha's, nor will I ever imply so.
